Stones Grow Her Name...

Everyone asks me what I think of the new SA album. I fail to see why it matters what I think of it, but here goes: I haven't heard it in entirety so far. Tried once in lappajärvi last weekend, but I was drunk and pre-occupied, so I wasn't paying too much attention. To be perfectly honest I didn't like Unia too much, although it had it's moments, and I never heard the next one (don't remember the name) from start to finish. I heard some of the new one and I give you this: I thought the banjo-rock-song (again, don't remember the name) was pretty funny, and "I Have a Right", which I've heard a few times, has a great chorus, I like it a lot. Really sticks in your head. Kudos for that, it's what I always thought the band should be about, great songs and great hooks.

I don't know if I mentioned this already, but I actually met Tony last month, for the first time in six years or so. It was actually really nice to see him, he's a good guy so don't you people go badmouthing him here. There's no bad blood between us and I really so appreciate him and his work a lot.

On our way to Timo's place @ helsinki now, the show was actually pretty much ok. Jens will join us later tonight, Strato has some stuff to work on tomorrow, and in the evening we drive back to lappajärvi to continue with the acoustic album.

Your local bum, signing out.

  2. When I heard Unia for the first time I felt that it was something different from your style, maybe I wasn't wrong. The important thing is that now both you and Tony do what you like and if you stay on good terms is even better.
    Good continuation man.

  3. Good that you guys are not in a fighting mode, still think having a Sonata without you does not quite work out for the best but they are doing okay and Cinderblox (the banjo rock songs) is indeed one of their better songs.
I also always thought Unia wasnt really to your liking especially after hearing Cain's offering which sounded a lot better than Unia.

Cant wait for the acoustic album!

  4. Thanks for the answer.

We do not criticize him. We criticize his work because we feel the frustration, disappointment, unfulfilled hopes. Some years ago (before you left this band) the songs were better, they were THE SONGS. But now - the songs are the shitload of messy fragments. It's so sad...

  5. Shitload of shitty fragments ? It's an opinion, I personnaly don't think so.. Tony is a really talented songwriter in my opinion, yes the songs have changed and are in general kind of better, and I'm happy they did. I LOVE the first albums.. But if they would have stick to that.. It would have quick became boring.. I like how it evolved. What I dislike most is Elias distortion sounds, not the playing he's really talented(though I'm not a fan of is quick legato patern he puts everywhere) but I hate the sounds of the distortion in The Days of Gray and Stone Grow Her name. (But the rythmme sound have improve in SGHN)

  6. All I will say is it's ok to change your songwriting style, but it's not ok to change the genre. Anyone noticed that they are no where near metal anymore? Listen to the songs again if you haven't.

    1. IMO Sonata is heavier that it used to be and I still listen to every album regulary. It is maybe les ''power'' metal. But certainly not less metal. (and who gives a fuck about style.. as long as the music please you, it might not please you but it please lot of persons. And please don't say they've change for money..)

  7. I'm such a sap that I almost got tearful over your words about Tony. I am so, so glad you guys are okay even though it's nothing the fuck to do with me... *tries to pull self together*

As for the new album, it's not one of my favourites but then Unia is my favourite album of all time, so my opinion may not matter much! :D

  8. Thank you so much for putting this up hon. So bloody many people throw shit around about how much you hate each other and hate each other's music and all this nonsense. Maybe now they'll see that has never ever been the case! I hope so anyways.

I wish you a good day and much success with recording! Can't wait to hear what you come out with next!

P.S. Can there be a Sydänpuu release soon please? Within the next few years at least? Also, poke Risto in the ribs for me if you get a chance, and send him a big snuggle. :)
