But they've never wanted to make sense, they want to make business... just my opinion, excuse me the believer people, don't throw me in the bonfire, please
How did poor Christianity stepped on your foot (hahaha) I do not know, but it's not as bad as you think, I guess. There are changes in religious picture of the world and I'm not sure that the discrediting of Christianity (and it happens even in Hollywood movies and this article for example) will help improve the situation. A holy place is never empty. Other more aggressive religion will occupy this place, as it is already happens. And I understand that things are not so simple and, of course, not Hollywood movies are the main cause of the decline of Christianity, many causes and factors, but also the role of such influence should not be underestimated. World can't be sterile from all religions. So, why I've written so many letters? (Hahaha)
Will I crucify you? Ohh, my gosh... Such fantasies did not come into my mind yet ahahahahahahaha (Joke) I meant in general, when you're in some southern countries, do not laugh too loudly at religion, because it is dangerous there. I must have expressed myself unclear. Sorry
to Anonymous: I definitely do not live in heaven especially at this particular moment rather in Hell (Mr.J. can even take a look at the statics, yes that country is mine) and I am afraid after crossing the last frontier also will not) I do not say that some countries are dangerous, I mean, in some countries (not chr. shhh) it is dangerous to joke about religion and that is all (I am wrong?!). If I hurted someone's feelings, I'm really sorry. (You see, I am still trying to be good and get to heaven). to Jani L. (ahahahaha) : Once again unclear (silly me), u mean I hurted people with my utterances, then vide supra or i should bear answer for the Great Inquisition? (ahahahaha) I still think that you have a prejudice specifically to Christianity as a religion, Dimmu Borgir has a song "Christians to the lions", next time you will be nostalgic of the past and listen to Craddle of filth, you should listen to it too. ahahaha P.S. And to defuse the situation, recently stumbled upon an old hit. "I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name" to our "hurt discussion". Listen to good song, people and dont be angry with me! (ahahahahaha) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq4j1LtCdww
Nope. Sorry to rain on your parade here, but I'm just as much against all religions. To quote prophet Liimatainen: Fuck that shit :)
But really, I'm done with the subject. Everytime it comes up someone gets butthurt and starts making stupid arguments, and that is just annoying. When you get into an argument with an idiot they just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience, and for me personally it's next to impossible to engage in a conversation where all logic is thrown out the door immediately.
I posted the link just because I found it fucking hilarious, not to start a theological debate on all things Christian. If someone finds it offensive, good. Just proved my point there, and I am still The Offensive Man :)
Thank you, mr. Liimatainen! All anonymous applaud you on their feet. Triumph of justice! You finally have done what some wise people expected from you for a long time! Good work!
There is one thing I don't get though, Jani. If you don't want a discussion, then maybe stop writing a blog? Cause people always show reaction to one's action. That's quite human...
I'm fine with discussion of most kinds, but as I pointed out many times, I just do not wish to engage in a theological debate. I think everyone here knows I'm very much an atheist and base pretty much everything on logic and reason. Hence, it's very hard to discuss with anyone who doesn't base their views and opinions on logic nor reason. Debating religion would be a prime example, since religion -to me- by default defies all logic and reason in favour of superstition and dogma, and is not open to any kind of criticism or objective evaluation. Do you wish me to stop writing just because of this?
I never said I wish you to stop writing. I just said I don't understand that point of posting something and then, when people answer, pointing out that you don't want to discuss that. Anyway, maybe you have just met the wrong people to discuss religion with. And of course it is pretty impossible to do proper discussions via Internet cause most people (at least most people I have read comments from) are not able to express themselves in a way that just explains their opinions rather then insulting people who have different opinions. And that goes for every single subject. I could acually imagine that it could be interesting to discuss not only religion but also believes with you (two shoes that not always go hand in hand as they should) - at least if it were a proper discussion without just joking about the other's opinion - because I myself find it quite interesting how somebody can not believe in anything :)
The point in posting was that it was fucking funny. I never expected anyone to get butthurt or start a discussion because of it.
I also find it very interesting how someone can believe in something resembling a "god". I will never know, and I'm fine with that. "Everybody's gotta believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer."
I accept everything as always on my account (which is not surprising at all for an idiot), but I did not insult anyone, just trying to hint that in Muslim countries you can not make fun of religion. And this is simply a fact, and nothing more. I'm not saying that Islam is a bad religion and these countries are bad. About expressing my idiotic thoughts, I totally agree with you, in addition to my stupidity I have a language barrier as well.
I know what you say about Islam and muslim countries is true, unfortunately. I do find Islam bad, but I also find other religions bad as well. Islam is easily the worst one of the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) at the moment, but it might be only because it only arose around the 7th century, so it's much younger than the other two. And lets be honest, for example Christianity wasn't quite what it is now back in the day, 14th century or so.
That is very true. But unfortunately many people confuse religion and faith and think that (talking about Christianity) everybody who believes in God also backs up what the church is/was doing. Which is wrong.
And Lostra, I wasn't talking about the unability to use English since it's not my native language either, but about people in general who don't know how to be polite (which seems to be even more difficult in internet than in real life. Just my experiance) or who offend/feel offended immidiately and by everything/everybody.
Of course, is not the same anymore. First Christians (about 1st century) were true believers, lived according to the commandments (which, admit it, are not so bad). And now we (at least I) are nominal Christians.
Some of the commandments are solid moral guidelines (Honor thy father, thou shalt not kill, blah blah blah...) but for instance the first few are just bullshit, admit it :)
Hm, depends on how you understand them. Of course the first three that are related to God don't make sense to you if you don't believe. But the rest are pretty much virtues as you said (no killing, lying, stealing, cheating...). And then for example the one that says you should only work for six days, not on the seventh is kind of making sure that you do take a rest, which is pretty nice in my opinion :) No?
And Anon: This is exactly what I meant. For me (and maybe some other people?) it is finally getting interesting. :) Just skip it if you don't want to follow this talk... ;)
You're hinting to the second commandment? (haha) I have enough sins (I listen to Dimmu Borgir in the end) so do not incite me to to sin more and to call the commandments a bullshit. I'm poor Christian, but a Christian.
Well, as I don't obey the ones regarding "The Man" I will most likely go to hell. And about the seventh day, I'm pretty sure in the modern society I'm not the only one who not always has the luxury of resting on "the seventh day". There are probably some pretty devout Christians who also have to bust their asses just to get by and make ends meet. Do they go to hell or what's the deal with them?
I know, I'm nitpicking a little, but hey, this shit is ridiculous when you view it objectively :)
If you want to take it word by word, then you are right. In my opinion (and I don't say that my opinion is right or true or that I know it for sure, after all it's called faith and not knowledge ;) ) some things need to be understood as kind of a symbol since society did change quite a lot since then. So for me it just means: Make sure you do take your time for yourself (and as a Christian for God). That can be a short time every day or a day in a week or some time of the month...
Heard about the court of conscience? In the church it is said that if you go and help a person in need on Sunday (for example help with cleaning the house) is not a sin. And so on. You take everything literally...
And to your other questions (in case they are serious questions which I doubt): I don't think so. But if you believe in something, of course you try to be as best as you can. If you believe you have another beer you try the best you can to get another one, don't you? ;)
Btw you don't have to be perfect anyway. And I do believe that nobody who truly regrets will go to hell. But that again is just my little opinion and I won't have to decide that...
Isn't it supposed to be literal? Isn't the bible the "Word of God" or whatnot? I'm actually asking, I'm not sure. For instance, when the Israelites made the golden calf while they got tired of waiting MC Moses god got pretty pissed and wanted to kill them all. Of course MC Moses being the wordsmith he is talked god out of it (that's some divine dedication there folks, the god, omnipotent, benevolent and infallible, was talked out of doing something). Seems he meant it pretty fucking literally...
I'm truly interested in which parts are meant to be literal and which are metaphorical or can otherwise be ignored. Who decides this?
That's actually a fantastic loophole there. You don't really have to give flying fuck about any of the commandments or anything. Murder, rape, lie and loot as much as you want. Just repent in the end and you're good to go. Open up the pearly gates, I'm coming in! :)
Well. It's not easy to be honest. After all, the people who wrote the first Bible are not there to ask them anymore. Since then it has been copied, translated and so on. So of course we can't be 100% sure about everything. In my understanding the very most important thing is that one does believe in God. (And yes, there are reasons why I do believe that don't have anything to do with what is written down there). And well the Bible IS difficult to understand, especially the Old Testament and some things might not make sense to our small human brains. I admit I haven't read it completely, so maybe I'm not the best person to discuss whether you should take it literally or not. I guess there are millions of opinions about it and I decided that everybody has to use their own understanding by reading, thinking, talking to other Christians if you want to... since also the church can go wrong or in other words: Different Christian churches have even different opinions...
I didn't say that you can do whatever you do, because then you are not honest in the first place to your actions and don't "truly" regret (because it was your plan). I meant if you do something wrong because you didn't know better, or if you tried to do your best but couldn't be as good as you thought you should... It's a difference but I don't know how to explain it... And also... maybe and some point you won't have time to regret anymore since you never know when the end will come...
Do not confuse the formal repentance (remember indulgences) and sincere repentance, first. Secondly, the will of God is known to nobody, we can only hope for salvation. Third, if you're going to kill and rob and later expect to repent, then there will be no forgiveness. There is no automatic, formal forgiveness. And fourth, I'm not a preacher, but only a weak Christian, don't forget.
Is Jani becoming a Christian? No. Are you becoming Atheists? No. So why bother each other? It's funny because when the subject is religion the post never dies, but when he posts something neutral or someone shows a nice video on the comments, usually the number of commenters is zero. If the goal is to fight or teach religion, YOU are following the wrong blog.
If you had read the posts carefully you would have noticed that my goal is neither to fight nor to preach. I like serious discussions about things I am interested in and that is not only religion but also some other things that just weren't mentioned in this blog yet :) I love music also but to me there is not much to say about a video post and I don't comment if I have nothing to say. That's all :)
Sorry, but I have to sign off now, there are beers to drink and sins to commit. Subject is interesting, but as I will never get the answers I would like to (Saying "it's too difficult to understand" or "It just is" or "It's the will of god" is not a fucking answer, it's just another way of saying you don't know either <- not directed to Feeniks or Lostra) I see no point in engaging in these conversations. I'd much rather just indulge in sex, drugs and rock n' roll. There is no god, there is no afterlife, only here and now. So lets fucking rock this one :)
Wtf did I just see? Was that THE Jani Fucking Liimatainen debating a random blabbing anon on the topic of Christianity??!! :D Oh dear, gotta say "well-done" but you must had been way too bored to even get into that, perhaps only logical to deduct you were locked in an elevator accident or something.
