The question is: Is the world a better place since humans became more intelligent? Or in other words: Do people know how to use their intelligence? Plus less intelligent people are often more happy. So maybe intelligence isn't always a blessing. :)
Uhmmmmmmmmmm intelligence and knowledge are two different concepts. Knowing stuff doesn't make you intelligent, you just possess information (some dickheads at my university are good examples of that LOL); but to me, being intelligent goes way beyond knowledge or the lack of it, I think it's about understanding how that info works and being able to handle and question it rather than having it... I think I'd be very unhappy if I didn't know the few things I know in all the time I've been living :P, so... [Ok I'm getting intense, bye]
Sorry but the essence of Christianity is Jesus Christ, nothin more. Is in the plain&simple two or three important sentences you find in NT. The Eden story and many others is a narration you find in AT, ie a recollection of ancient narrations and myths of an ancient tribe of the middle east called the tribe of Judah - now Jews.
Sooo given the fact that first part of the quote is WRONG, second one is RIGHT. The mighty Lord of AT, seems to appear quite often as a dictator. But again, you might have to consider all the fact of the Serpent and bla bla. You know. It's really something you can't expect to really dig into so easily, it may take a good evening with friends, beers, smoke and some good music to properly discuss it. :)
For instance, I'm neither catholic nor jew, religion is not my thing, but speaking of intellectuals (which is also a religion with his own dogmas) one would better be precise and honest when making a critic or giving a judgement, especially if it's something said so generally. Love Zappa anyway!
1. In the NT Jesus clearly says he's not here to overwrite the "law", the Word of God, the Old Testament. Nowhere in the NT you'll find that the OT doesn't apply anymore. After all, it IS the word of his father, he was supposed to come here clarify a few things here and there then went off with a bang.
2."intellectuals (which is also a religion with his own dogmas)" is that the old Atheism Is Religion bullshit?, it's funny that the very next sentence applies so well back at you: "one would better be precise and honest when making a critic or giving a judgement, especially if it's something said so generally". You just bundled any intellectual thought as being part of a dogma merely because there may be a few idiots who agree in their disbelief and some key points.
1. Didn't say AT doesn't apply anymore A.C. I said the essence of Christianity isn't the Law of AT, but the new message of Christ itself. Moses is the one chosen to establish the Law, Christ the one to accomplish it once and for all. Here's the accomplishment. "Wash blood with blood", sacrifice, purification.
2. Ha! You got me. :) Indeed, my sentence was a total boomerang. Well, I usually don't bear people who "goes intellectual" only for vanity, I was comparing intellectual self-esteem to religion thinking about those people who eventually claim their overall superiority over others due to their knowledges ecc, so that they become like a closed circle, like the religious ones. My conclusion over honesty wasn't meant to sound so generical and pretentious as it may eventually have sounded. That, as you say, doesn't make all intellectuals dummies, and I think so myself.
Still, I think Frank blames the wrong side of the pic. the "Get smart and I'll fuck you over" stands for the AT attitude of God. For which you've to consider not only human and God acts, but also (and above all) the influence of Satan words on first men's free-will. Then on the other side, you have Christianity as based on Christ's sacrifice, the attitude here (of the same God through his son testify) is of reconciliation, not hatred or dispotism.
Anyhow he must have had his rightful reasons, as we all know how was his attitude toward religion (and most of the times I really do agree, living in a Catholic country you've to listen to such things.. brr) :)
As for atheism, I personally don't care about it. Only, I was wondering, if you (ipothetical subject) think you're atheist means that you don't believe in God's existence, but then what's the point in defining yourself a non-believer in something you don't even think it exists? By actually making a "believe it or not" stand on it, by referring to it, you're already giving it existence, even if your stand is originally based on the claim that the thing you're speaking of doesn't even exist... It doesn't make much sense to me, from a logical POV.
Didn't want to turn this into a theology discussion-board, I'm only an asshole who has fun wasting his time studying and discussing religious, mythological and kinda stuff. :)
A theory I'm reading about these days is that the "Garden of Eden" was actually the private garden of Akhenaton (Amenophis IV) in his holy city of Akhet-Aton. The tree was believed to be of divine essence and only Akhenaton and his wife, the incarnation on Earth of the god Aton, were allowed to eat them. The Priests of Akhet-Aton (Yahoud Priests) ate the fruits, and thus, usurped the divinity from Akhenaton. They were then cast out of the holy city and became the aforementioned tribe of Judah.
Well seeing how some people take this very seriously, I actually feel comforted that I'm not the sole person I know that has trouble with taking things as a joke. Except this time I didn't take it seriously...perhaps it's that fact that I'm atheist? Whatever, still laughed my ass off. Jani, who DO you find these things?
And the questions at FAQ !!!
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me to listen to more Zappa

Very cool theory, if you ask me.
And here I was trying to be funny...
