Coffee and Zimmer

Waking up, drinking coffee and reading an interview with Hans Zimmer. Feeling like I should write some new music. But first a cigarette and another cup of coffee.

If you're interested in what Mr. Zimmer had to say (and it has an audio excerpt from the new "Man of Steel" movie as well) you can find it HERE

  1. Jani, what's your favourite piece of music by the v. talented Mr Zimmer? :)

    1. Hard to say, there are many good ones (although in all fairness, some of them are pretty similar). "Tennessee" from Pearl Harbor, "Crimson Tide Theme" from Crimson Tide, "Time" from Inception, "Chevaliers de Sangreal" from The Da Vinci Code (a song that saved the whole movie, the only time I got interested during the whole film was when this song started playing), "On the Road (Rainman Theme)" from Rainman, and of course The Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack... There's too many of them to mention.

    2. I definitely agree with ‘Tennessee',‘Time’, and yep absolutely ‘Chevaliers de Sangreal’ made a mediocre film far more engaging. POTC soundtrack is amazing, ‘Drink Up Me Hearties’ being the standout winner IMO. I also love his score for ‘The Last Samurai’, notably ‘Final Charge’ and ‘A Small Measure of Peace'. Oh and of course the title music to ‘The Pacific’ is incredibly moving :) Although Zimmer does have scores that sound similar, they're much more individual than say James Horner's scores (most of which I love, just they are very same-y, lol). I feel a score can make or break a film :)
Have you ever composed music for a film Jani?

    4. Maybe after a solo album? lol ;) Looking forward to new music from you - in whatever form it takes next :)
Going to be really cheeky and push my luck asking a third question today - out of all of your own music, do you have a favourite piece, one you're most proud of?
